Getting help

What2Eat is made by a very small team. Email vincentwhistler@what2eat.uk and you will get a reply from a human, usually within a couple of days.

It helps if you include your iPhone model, your iOS version, the app version (Profile → About), and what you were doing when it went wrong.

Common questions

Do I need an account? No. There is no sign-up and no login. The app opens straight into everything it does.

Why does it want my location? To find restaurants, cafés and shops near you through Apple Maps, and only when you use Eat Out, Order In, Discover's nearby places or the grocery finder. In Order In, your postcode (worked out from your location by Apple) is sent to Just Eat to check which chains deliver to you, and the Uber Eats button carries your location rounded to about 110 metres. Your location is never sent to us. Cook works completely without it.

Where are my allergies kept? Only on your iPhone, and only if you agree when you first save one. They are never synced to iCloud and never sent to us. Profile → Dietary profile → Remove all and withdraw consent deletes them.

Are the allergen filters safe to rely on? No — and please read this one. They are worked out automatically from ingredient names, so they cannot see an allergen hidden inside a sauce, a stock or a processed ingredient. If you have an allergy, intolerance or coeliac disease, always check the full recipe and the packaging yourself.

How do I delete my data? Everything lives on your iPhone — and, if iCloud sync is on, in your own iCloud account so it follows you to your other devices. Delete an item in the app while sync is on and it is removed from your other devices and from iCloud too; press and hold a history entry to delete it, or clear a whole history. When you switch iCloud sync off in Profile, the app asks whether to remove your What2Eat data from iCloud as well. Deleting the app removes everything on that device. We hold no copy of your app data, because the app has no server. To have your waitlist email or messages to us deleted, email vincentwhistler@what2eat.uk.

Order In picked a place my delivery app doesn't show. Order In only lands on chain branches that Just Eat itself says deliver to your postcode and are taking orders, and "Order on Just Eat" opens that exact branch. Uber Eats and Deliveroo can't be checked from the app, so a chain being on them doesn't mean they cover your street — the card says so under those buttons. If Just Eat can't be reached, Order In falls back to chains near you on Apple Maps and asks you to check they deliver to your address.

A restaurant or a delivery order went wrong. What2Eat only links out to those services — we do not take orders, handle payments or deliver anything. Please take it up with the restaurant or the delivery company directly.

How do I turn off the reminders? Profile → Notifications turns off every reminder; Profile → Daily reminder turns off just the daily one. Or use iOS Settings → Notifications → What2Eat.
