Terms of Use

Last updated: 25 October 2026

These terms are a contract between you and Vincent Whistler Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17213403 ("we", "us", "our"), the publisher of What2Eat.
Registered office: Prama House, Banbury Road, Oxford, England, OX2 7HT
Email: vincentwhistler@what2eat.uk

By downloading or using the app you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

1. WHAT THIS APP IS

What2Eat is a suggestion and inspiration tool. It helps you decide what to eat by showing you recipe ideas, nearby places, and links to third-party delivery and transport apps. It is an information service only. We do not cook food, sell food, prepare food, deliver anything, operate any restaurant or vehicle, take orders, or handle payments.

2. DIETARY, ALLERGEN AND HEALTH — READ THIS BEFORE YOU COOK OR ORDER

Allergen, ingredient and dietary labels and filters in this app (including but not limited to vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, high-protein and low-carb labels) are generated AUTOMATICALLY from recipe ingredient text. They are best-effort only and WILL contain errors. They are not verified by a nutritionist, dietitian, laboratory or certification body, and they say nothing about how or where food is prepared, or about cross-contamination.

The filters read ingredient names only. They cannot see an allergen hidden inside a compound ingredient — for example anchovy inside a sauce, celery inside a stock or bouillon, or gluten inside a processed product — and they cannot know what a manufacturer has changed since a recipe was written.

A "gluten-free" or "dairy-free" label means only that we did not detect that ingredient in the recipe text. It is NOT a coeliac-safe or allergy-safe certification.

IF YOU HAVE A FOOD ALLERGY, INTOLERANCE, COELIAC DISEASE, A MEDICAL CONDITION, ARE PREGNANT, OR COOK FOR ANYONE WHO DOES, DO NOT RELY ON THIS APP. Always read the full recipe, check product packaging, ask the venue directly, and consult a qualified medical professional. You are solely responsible for deciding whether any food is safe and suitable for you and for anyone you serve it to.

3. NOT PROFESSIONAL ADVICE

Nothing in the app is medical, nutritional, dietary, health, or safety advice. Calorie, protein, carbohydrate, fat and saturated fat figures are estimates, worked out from each recipe's ingredient list with USDA FoodData Central (public-domain data from the US Department of Agriculture). Brands, sizes and cooking change the real figure, and they may be wrong. The saturated fat level (low, medium or high) applies the UK Food Standards Agency's front-of-pack thresholds to those estimates; it is a label, not a health claim, and "Hide high saturated fat" only filters on it. Do not use the app to diagnose or treat any condition.

4. RECIPES AND COOKING

Recipes are provided "as is" for inspiration. Ingredients, quantities, temperatures, cooking times, timers, difficulty ratings and serving sizes may be inaccurate, incomplete or unsuitable for your equipment, ingredients or altitude. Timers are a convenience only and may be delayed, silenced or missed by your device.

On some iPhones the app can rewrite a recipe's steps to make them clearer, using a language model built into iOS. That text is generated automatically, is not checked by a person, and can be wrong or can omit something. The original steps remain available and take precedence. Do not rely on generated text for anything affecting safety, including temperatures, cooking times and whether something is cooked through.

YOU are responsible for safe food handling and safe cooking — including cooking food to a safe internal temperature, safe storage, avoiding raw or undercooked ingredients where that carries risk, and the safe use of knives, heat, hot oil, gas, electrical appliances and pressure cookers. Undercooked food can cause serious illness. If a recipe step looks wrong, do not follow it.

5. RESTAURANTS, LOCATIONS, DIRECTIONS AND TRAVEL

Place names, addresses, map pins, distances, opening status, travel times, routes and directions come from Apple Maps and other third-party sources. They may be inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, or point to the wrong location, the wrong branch, a closed business, or a place that no longer exists.

We do not verify any venue, its hygiene, its licensing, or its suitability. You are responsible for confirming where you are going before you travel, for your own safety while travelling, and for obeying all traffic and pedestrian laws. Do not use the app while driving. Never follow a route that appears unsafe or unlawful. We accept no responsibility for any journey you make, however it was prompted, including any journey to an incorrect address.

6. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES AND APPS

The app contains links that open third-party services, including delivery platforms (such as Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Just Eat), map providers, and taxi and ride-hailing apps. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting as agent for any of them unless expressly stated.

Once you leave What2Eat, that third party's own terms and privacy policy apply and we have no control over what happens. We are not responsible for: whether those apps are installed, available, working, or open at the correct page; what you are shown, offered or charged there; any order you place; any food that is late, missing, incorrect, from a different venue than you expected, of poor quality, or unsafe; any driver, courier, vehicle or journey; any refund, cancellation or dispute; or any account you hold with them. Any complaint about an order, delivery or ride must be taken up with that provider, not with us.

When you choose a delivery service, the app tries to open it on the chain it suggested, or on the list of places delivering to your area, using your approximate location or postcode as described in our Privacy Policy. What is actually open, available and delivering to you is decided by that service at that moment, so a place, chain or dish the app suggests may not be offered to you there. A suggestion is an idea, not a promise that it is available.

Suggested menu items shown next to a chain are illustrative examples from our own list. They are NOT that venue's live menu, and may be unavailable, discontinued, differently priced, or differently made.

7. TRADE MARKS

What2Eat and its logo are ours. All other names, logos and brands in the app — including Apple, Apple Maps, iCloud, Uber, Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Just Eat, Bolt, FreeNow, Gett, Veezu, Lyft and Google Maps — are the property of their respective owners and are used only to identify those services. Their use does not imply any affiliation, sponsorship or endorsement in either direction.

8. OUR CONTENT, AND YOUR LICENCE TO USE THE APP

We own or license everything in the app: its software, design, text, recipe photos, our own recipes, and our arrangement and curation of the recipe collection. Some recipes are adapted from public nutrition-education recipes: the facts are kept, the wording and photos are ours, and the original source is credited as "Adapted from" where it is known.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, in accordance with the App Store Terms of Service. You may cook from the recipes as much as you like, including for other people. You may not copy, scrape, bulk-export, resell, republish or redistribute the recipe collection or any substantial part of it, reverse-engineer the app, or use it to build a competing product or dataset.

9. CONTENT YOU CREATE AND SHARE

You keep ownership of any recipe, photo or text you add. You grant us only the limited permission needed to store and display it to you inside the app, and to encode it into a share link when you choose to share it. We claim nothing more.

You are responsible for what you add and for anything you share. Do not add content you do not have the right to use, and do not share a recipe you know to be unsafe.

What2Eat is for the whole family. Recipes, names and photos must not contain swearing, sexual content, nudity, or anything racist, hateful or abusive. The app checks what you write and the photos you add, on your iPhone, and will not save or open a recipe that breaks this rule. No automatic check is perfect, so if something gets through, please report it.

Content shared with you by another person is their content, not ours. We do not host it or endorse it — a share link travels directly from them to you and never passes through us. The app does check a shared recipe automatically, on your iPhone, before showing it (see below), but no automatic check is perfect: treat a recipe from a stranger with the same caution you would treat any other message from a stranger.

If you believe content in the app infringes your rights or is unlawful, write to vincentwhistler@what2eat.uk identifying the content and your rights in it. Every shared-recipe preview also has a "Report this recipe" link that emails us. We will review it and do what we can: we don't hold other people's recipes, so we can't delete one from someone else's iPhone, but we can stop our website showing it, add what we learn to the app's automatic checks, and help you report it where that is needed. We have no general obligation to monitor content, and acting on a report is not an admission of liability.

10. NOTIFICATIONS AND REMINDERS

Reminders and cooking-timer alerts are scheduled by your device, not by us. They may be delayed, silenced, duplicated or not delivered at all — for example if your device is off, in a Focus mode, low on power, or if you change your notification settings. Do not rely on a reminder for anything that matters.

Some links in the app may in future earn us a commission if you go on to buy something. Where that is the case we will say so clearly next to the link. The "Recommended utensils" on a recipe page, shown in the UK only, are amazon.co.uk affiliate links: as an Amazon Associate, Vincent Whistler Limited earns from qualifying purchases, Amazon's own terms and privacy policy apply once you are there, and the products, their prices, availability and delivery are Amazon's and its sellers' responsibility, not ours. It never changes the price you pay, and it does not affect which recipe or place the app suggests to you.

12. AVAILABILITY AND CHANGES

The app is provided "as is" and "as available". Features that depend on the internet, location services, iCloud, or third parties may fail or be withdrawn at any time, including because a third party changes or blocks their service. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the app without notice, and we may stop supporting older versions of iOS.

We may update these terms. If we do, the "Last updated" date changes and the current version is always in the app and at what2eat.uk/terms. Material changes will be flagged in the app where we reasonably can. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new terms; if you do not, stop using the app and delete it.

13. THINGS OUTSIDE ANYONE'S CONTROL

We are not liable for any failure or delay caused by something beyond our reasonable control, including network or platform outages, changes made by Apple or by any third-party service, power failures, or acts of government.

14. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

To the fullest extent permitted by law, and except as stated in section 15, we are not liable for any loss or damage — direct or indirect — arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app or anything it links to. This includes, without limitation: illness, allergic reaction or injury arising from food you chose, cooked, ordered or ate; a wrong, unsafe, closed or non-existent location; incorrect directions or travel times; a failed, late, wrong or unsatisfactory delivery or ride; a third-party app that does not work; a reminder that did not arrive; wasted time, money, ingredients or travel costs; lost or corrupted data; and any business, profit or opportunity lost.

The app is free. Where we are found liable despite the above, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims is limited to £100.

You use the app on your own judgement.

15. THINGS WE CANNOT AND DO NOT EXCLUDE

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for breach of the terms implied by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

If you are a consumer, you keep all of your statutory rights. Nothing here affects them, and nothing here requires you to give up any right you cannot lawfully give up.

16. INDEMNITY

If someone else brings a claim against us because you used the app in breach of these terms, or because of content you created or shared, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs — except where the claim is caused by our own negligence or breach, and except to the extent you were acting as a consumer in the ordinary use of the app.

17. ENDING THIS AGREEMENT

You can end it at any time by deleting the app. We may end it, or withdraw your licence, if you materially breach these terms — for example by scraping the recipe collection or interfering with the app's operation. Sections 2 to 9 and 14 to 20 survive.

18. AGE

The app is suitable for all ages. If you are under 18, cook only with a parent or guardian's supervision, and never operate cooking equipment unsupervised.

19. APPLE

You acknowledge that these terms are between you and us only, not with Apple, and that we alone — not Apple — are responsible for the app and its content. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any; to the maximum extent permitted by law Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal requirement, and claims under consumer protection or privacy law. We, not Apple, are responsible for investigating and defending any claim that the app infringes a third party's intellectual property rights. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

20. GENERAL

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we do not lose it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours if the app changes hands, and your rights will not be reduced by that. These terms are the whole agreement between us about the app.

21. GOVERNING LAW

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK or the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your home country and may bring proceedings there.
